24th May Matches.
Fantastic weather for Sunday’s 5-mile matches. Sandycove 1 were at home against a very strong Newtownpark 1.
2nd pairing Helen Stunell and Grace Keegan on Court 2 won their match 6-3 6-3 to get Sandycove on their way.
3rd pairing Jeanne Kelly and Louisa Kennedy on Court 3 played a great match bringing the first set to a tiebreaker which they narrowly lost, Newtownpark gaining momentum to win the second set and the match.
It was all down to 1st pairing Annmarie Drohan and super sub Jess Legge on Court 1 – they were terrific against a very strong pairing and won the first set on a tiebreaker, holding their nerve to win the 2nd set 7-5 and secure the win for Sandycove 1.
Well done ladies – a great evening’s tennis!
7th June match Sandycove 1 v Shankill 1:
1st pairing Annemarie Drohan and super sub Jessica Legge lost the first set 6-2 but came back strong in the 2nd set bringing it to a tiebreaker but sadly, Shankill just took the win.
2nd pairing Grace Keegan and Helen Stunell won in straight sets to pick up a valuable point.
3rd pairing Louisa Kennedy and Arwen Cusack subbing and making her 5-mile league debut, lost the first set 6-1 before getting into their stride in the second set taking it to a tiebreaker but unfortunately, Shankill proved too strong, taking the win.
