Charity League

On a gloriously sunny morning, the team travelled to Greystones for the Charity League quarter-finals, facing a strong home side.

In the third pairing, Helen Curran and Ellen had a tough start, losing the first set 6–0, but they showed incredible resilience in the second. Trailing 5-0 and facing multiple match points, they battled back brilliantly to 5-4, but the Greystones pair held their nerve on serve to take the set 6-4.

In the second pairing, Ann and Catherine came up against a very strong duo. Despite their best efforts, they lost the first set 6–1, with Greystones carrying that momentum through to take the second set and secure the overall tie.

At number one, the previously unbeaten pairing of Mandy O’Neill and Natalie Flanagan were in the middle of a tight contest. They had taken the first set 6-4 and were leading 5-4 in the second when play was halted, as Greystones had already clinched the match 2-0 and progressed to the next round.

Captain Helen Curran would like to extend a big thank you to the squad: Ann Herbert, Catherine Kearney, Ellen O’Carroll, Mandy O’Neill and Natalie Flanagan and to the subs who played their part throughout the campaign – Linda Vidal, Orla MacMahon and Sarah-Beth Casey.

While it wasn’t to be this time, the team can be proud of their efforts. Sandycove can regroup and come back stronger for the Autumn Charity League.
