Despite horrendous conditions last Sunday – yellow weather warnings, flooded courts and howling gales – all eight teams got their matches played by yesterday’s deadline. Sandycove now goes into the final week with 4 of our teams in strong contention for the play-offs – keep it up ladies!

Sandycove 1 had to postpone their match against Newtown Park to Wednesday. Thankfully conditions were more benign and the girls returned a 2-1 win. Big thank you to super subs Jacqui and Vanessa who helped secure that important win.

Donabate was unplayable on Sunday and so the Sandycove 2 girls made the journey on Monday instead. Sadly it wasn’t to be – our 2nd pair fought a brave fight going to 3 sets but in the end it went Donabate’s way giving them a 2-1 win. Thank you Emma for subbing, and in particular, for travelling to Donabate.

Sandycove 3 had a great win against De Vesci on Tuesday evening with #1s and #3s making short work of the opposition winning 6/1, 6/1 in both matches. Special thanks to Siobhan for stepping in. This team is now second in its group!

Sandycove 4 headed off to Clontarf on Monday. The opposition was stiff and unfortunately Clontarf prevailed winning 3-0. Better luck next week ladies and in the meantime a big thank you to Liz and Anne for subbing.

Sandycove 5 also played Clontarf – only this time at home. Thank you Orla, Eva and Julia for subbing. A great 2-1 win for the girls – Clontarf’s first defeat – putting them in an excellent position near the top of a very tight group.

Sandycove 6 met a strong Claremont Team at home on Monday evening. Unfortunately things didn’t go Sandycove’s way with Claremont taking 2 points. Thank you Zuilimah for subbing.

No postponement call from Stackallen and so Sandycove 7 bravely trekked out to Meath on Sunday. The rain subsided for the most part but raging winds made for challenging conditions. The team prevailed, scooping 2 points, and heads into next week at the top of its group. A special thank you to Linda who gave up her Sunday to sub.

Sandycove 8 also played on Sunday, away to a strong Leopardstown. The #1s grabbed a point for the team and while the #3s fought a gallant battle going to 3 sets, it wasn’t to be. Leopardstown won 2-1, taking top place in the group. Never mind ladies, at 2nd place you’ve an excellent shot at going through to the play-offs.

Good luck everybody this Sunday!
