Hi Everyone,

It’s 5 o’clock, it’s the middle of January, we are in lockdown, the Club is closed and I’m feeling ok. I hope you are too.

I am just sitting down with a cup of tea and a freshly baked slice of Mairead’s lemon drizzle cake.

It’s time to think of brighter days ahead. I’m looking forward to playing tennis again, to cycling some of Ireland’s Greenways and meeting friends in our great club.

As I sit here I’m remembering some wonderful times in Sandycove, both at tennis and at social events.

I had a great run in the club handicaps a few years ago with Mick Boland and have had lots of epic battles since – some I won and lots I lost – all great memories. I’m sure you too have had great triumphs if you take a minute to think about it – playing friendlies, box matches, and league games, Handicaps or Championships.

We’ve all had great times in the clubhouse too, maybe a quiet drink after tennis or at the Christmas show, Opera night, Greek night, Quiz night, Wine tasting, Christmas dinner, Stakeout or after a great league win…the list is long.

I feel hopeful for the year ahead so decided to ask Joe Cunningham, our fantastic photographer, if he had photos to better remind us of what to hope for, than I can say in a few sentences.

Well, as always with Joe, he didn’t take long and made a brilliant picture show set to ELO’s wonderful piece Mr Blue Sky.

So, take a minute, treat yourself whatever way you do… And click on the link below.

I think this will bring a smile to your face and friends closer to your heart as you recall your own favourite memories in Sandycove.

I, along with everyone on the committee , Ruth, Bill, John F, Paul, Mandy, Aileen, Paddy, Eoin, Colin, Anita, Alan and Tim look forward to seeing you again soon on the courts.

Stay safe and enjoy the next few minutes.
