Special congratulations to our Men’s 75+ Doubles team who on a lovely Monday lunchtime brought home another Winner’s pennant to the club. Congratulations to the team on continuing to set the standard so high for other teams in the club to follow. A special Thank You to Michael Butler and the sterling work he does behind the scenes, without whom our participation in the event would not have been possible. Below is a brief report from Michael on the concluding day!. Well done team.
The Inaugural +75 Men’s Doubles league concluded on Monday May 14th at Glenageary with all 6 clubs in action. Sandycove were led by Des Murray, deputising for Jimmy Casey, partnered as ever by Dermot Finnucane; with Des Fitzgerald and Michael Butler also playing, and Vinny Dunphy resting on the day.
Three teams were in contention for the Winners Pennant, Glenageary, Malahide and Sandycove.
All eyes were on Courts 1 & 2 where Glenageary went toe to toe with Malahide. The tie hinged on the fourth and final doubles which went to 14-12 in the tie break & the spoils to Glenageary. Sandycove meanwhile after a close first rubber won 5-4 by Dermot and Des, moved up a gear and comfortably defeated Sutton 4-0, and this saw Sandycove being undefeated in the campaign and winners of the coveted Pennant. Thanks to support on the day from captain Liam Hurley, Pat Giles and Pat Smyth.
