The final round of group games took place last Sunday and the 5th team will be flying the flag in the play-offs. They are at home to Lansdowne 3rds this Sunday, March 3rd at 11am and support for the team would be extremely welcome.

The 5th team, captained by John F Burke, lost their last group game 3-0 but had already qualified for the play-offs having won all of their earlier games. Our 4th and 6th teams were also in the hunt for play-offs but needed 3-0 wins and other results to go their way. The 6th team, captained by Larry Staines, came closest when they had a very comfortable 3-0 home win against Riverview but unfortunately another result in the group did not go their way and they were pipped for the play-offs by 1 point. Our 4th team, captained by JP Begley, lost their final group game 3-0.

Our 1st team had a 2-1 win away to Castleknock with a strong win at No1. Doubles for Rob Neiland and Richie Morris 6-1 6-2 while Oisin O’Hanlon and Harry Owens showed great composure winning 6-4 in the 3rd set in a very heated fixture. Ivan Brady and Reon Ferreira were edged out in a tight match 7-5 6-4.

The 2nd team lost 2-1 against Templeogue where they picked up a point at No.1 doubles. Our 3rd team won 2-1 against Templeogue with a comfortable win for the up and coming Louis Hemeryck with Roy Bailey at No.1 doubles while Philip Craig and Keith O’Byrne won at No.3 doubles 6-4 6-3. The 7th team lost 3-0 with Wes Hudson and Conor O’Neill going closest in a 3 set match at No.2 doubles.

Many thanks to everyone for their best efforts during the group stages and to all of the subs who played a huge role during the campaign. And the very best of luck to our 5th team in the play-offs and all support welcome.

Colin
