The trumpet of a prophecy! O Wind,
If Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?
And before you know it, summer will be here again!
Dear Members
After what can be only described as a wonderful two weeks of Championship Tennis, the advent of Autumn brings us into the various DLTC run tennis campaigns that will hopefully preoccupy us all in the months ahead. As always the club is here to accommodate members playing tennis or participating in social events. The success of this club is entirely dictated by members volunteering their time and efforts and contributing to the wonderful establishment that we have today. As this committee nears the end of its tenure, I would encourage members to come forward and offer their services in some form to continue to improve our club’s offering. Whether on an ad hoc basis or joining committee for the 2022/2023 year, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
On the subject asking for members to assist in the club, I would like to bring to your attention of an annual award by DLTC that is made by the council to a Female administrator/player, who in the opinion of the council has, over a number of years, made a significant contribution to the development and promotion of Dublin League Tennis. This award grants the recipient the Muriel Bolton Perpetual Trophy, which is a very prestigious honour among the Tennis fraternity. In 2019 our President Ken Browne put forward to the DLTC a female member name from Sandycove that he deemed worthy of this annual award. As we are all too aware with the intervening years proving difficult no recipient of this award occurred as like a lot of things it went on standby.
But low and behold in the last week the club and myself were contacted by Dublin Lawn Tennis Council to announce the winner of this perpetual trophy and the first person in Sandycove to have being granted such recognition. The recipient of The Muriel Bolton Award for 2022 is Mary O’Connell of Sandycove LTC. Congratulations Mary on behalf of your club, I can think of no one more deserving of this Trophy. Ken Browne sang your praises when nominating you for this award in 2019 and we all echo his sentiments. Myself and the committee whilst musing over the year recently, felt it had being successful but also incredibly positive on all accounts. Truly this is the icing on the cake Mary and we are delighted for you on a personal level and also for the positive message it will give out to the various neighbouring clubs of Sandycove LTC.
It is envisaged that a presentation will take place on 23rd October 2022 on the occasion of Senior League Finals and most probably at Wicklow LTC who are hosting some of the finals, but this is yet to be confirmed. In the meantime Mary lap up the praises of your fellow members as you have earned this many times over.
Regards
David Hanley
President
