The final night was held last Friday on yet another sunny night for the event!

39 players togged out this time and as ever this was thanks to the people who subbed in,some again at very short notice.

Special mention here has to go to club coach Aine Leonard. For many of the mens league players this was the first chance they had to see Aine playing. In her match with young gun Will Fitzgerald v the slightly older guns Luke and Oisin, she showed why she plays for the Leinster Ladies team and is currently the no 8 ranked player in Ireland. The balcony was impressed not just with her superb strokes but also the way she had quiet tactical chats with Will as they fought back from 8 – 4 down to finish the match 8 – 7, playing superb tennis en route.

After the 1st round of matches Alan’s Artists had suddenly gone from last to 1st on 29 points after beating Fred’s Flyers 12-6, and in with a chance of an unlikely success.

However, after a typically rousing team talk from captain Rory O’Hagan, Rory’s Rockets had enough fuel in the tank to gun down Keith’s Killers 11-8. This gave them 32 points, enough to edge home and make Rory the unbeaten captain in the two years of the event–Rory and Aine are available for tactical and motivational coaching at an appropriate fee!

Special mention also to player of the tournament Harry Wall ,who stepped in to play two matches each night, winning 5 of his 6 matches at Line 3 –well done Harry!

We hope that all the participants have a great Summer League, and judging by the standard on the final night, players have really benefitted from getting these competitive matches in before the league commences.
