Well, the group stages of the Winter League are over, and we have BIG NEWS!
2 PLAYOFFS!!
Warmest congratulations to our phenomenal Class 6 and Class 7 teams – and very best of luck for Sunday.
A quick review of how it all finished – I think we can agree – we’ve had a great few weeks on court. It was great to be back to league, dialling up the competitiveness and getting to visit and host other clubs again.
Huge thanks and congratulations to our brilliant captains; Sandie, Aideen, Linda, Clodagh, Mairead W, Mairead T and Mary D all did us proud – we were honoured to serve you ladies!
Our class 2 team finished the group stages with an admirable 8 points and were unlucky not to qualify for playoffs, finishing 3rd in their section. Last week they met Monkstown 1s and I think any of us who met Monkstown this time would agree that Sarah Jane and Super Sub Beccy were brilliant to grab a point.
Our class 3 team under Aideen met Claremount Railway Union 1s and had a tough day at the office with no points in the final week. But they had a good campaign, won 6 good points and played some excellent tennis along the way.
Linda’s class 3 team got a point at home against Carrickmines. This team battled hard in a particularly tough group and can be very proud of themselves – we certainly are.
Class 4, under inspirational Captain Clodagh, had all the craic during their group stages. With many of the team taking a step up to class 4 for the first time; this team did very well to finish mid-table. A tough day on Sunday against the team that topped the entire league table with 14 points – a valiant effort on all 3 courts but all lost out to a very talented team.
Some great partnerships, strong tennis and super subs along the way – a solid campaign.
Class 5 met Brookfield 4. With captain Mairead cheering them on from the balcony due to a regrettable injury from putting her own body on the line earlier in the campaign; they secured 2 great points to finish mid-table. A particularly exciting battle ensued at 2s and a giddy balcony cheered Lisa and sub Julia Cullen to a resounding victory in the 3rd set. Jade and Emma also secured a point. 8 points was a strong finish ladies – take a bow.
and what can we say? more to come from our wonderful class 6 and 7 teams!
Class 6 were unlucky in the final week to be beaten by Terenure – a valiant effort by some wonderful subs (much thanks Anna, Ann, Margaret and Grace) wasn’t enough to add any points – but they didn’t need them! Their prior winning streak had secured 9 points and a play off away vs Charleville at 2pm on Sunday!
Class 7 had a rest week last week – time to relax after a wonderful group stage, and look forward to their play off against Sutton at 2pm on Sunday.
If anyone happens to be around the Charleville/Sutton area on Sunday – go lend some support to these fabulous ladies of Sandycove. So proud – all the best of luck.
