What a week for the Sandycove ladies! Natalie Flanagan’s Class 5 team kicked off on Monday with a brilliant win over Deepark. Indeed, Margaret Hartnett played so well that she was able to tell Prince Charles all about it the next day. Our Class 7 team were just pipped at home by Greystones, with young Kate Quinn securing yet another vital point with a great singles performance.
On Tuesday, some amazing results started to roll in. First of all, Sarah-Beth Casey’s team, also Class 5, reversed their fortunes from last week with a stupendous 5-0 win over Meadowvale. Later on, Val Kerr’s Class 4 team followed their 5-0 win from last week with a hard-fought 4-1 victory away to Templeogue. Linda Walsh came through in three very tight sets, and Meabh Moore continued her winning ways by coming through 7-6 in the third after suffering a bad fall but refusing to retire, despite her opponent’s kind and helpful suggestions.
And then on Wednesday, we had three more great wins! The fourth team, Class 4, kicked some butt in Leopardstown, Amy Murray recording a fine win at no. 2 singles. The seconds beat Greystones 2 5-0 in Greystones, with Vanessa O’Reilly majestic as ever coming through an excellent match 6-1 in the third. And the firsts entertained the home balcony in fine style with yet another 4-1 win, this time at the expense of Donnybrook.
Weeks like this are few and far between, and no doubt tougher challenges lie ahead, but there’s no denying that winning is way more fun than losing. May we all bask in our fabulousness, until Monday at least!
