Dear Parents,

We were blessed with a wonderful day yesterday for our Junior Championship Finals Day! There was a wonderful atmosphere in the club and it was great to see so many families including siblings, aunties, uncles, parents, grandparents and friends come out to support the players. We were entertained not only on the balcony but as we all look forward to on finals day, we were treated to a fantastic talent show put on by some incredible children, a highlight for everyone who was there.

The tennis was very exciting, with some very tight matches with a lot of 3 setters! Overall the standard of play was very high with very competitive tennis balanced by fantastic sportsmanship! There were just under 100 prizes awarded yesterday so a huge well done to everyone involved. I would like to congratulate Rebecca McNally who won our Bernie Lyons trophy this year, a very special award given to someone who embodies the club spirit both on and off the court.

We hope the children enjoyed the day and that they will have good memories of their 2017 summer in Sandycove Tennis Club!

Yesterday, was testament to how a club should work, with everyone coming out to support and help! From all our umpires, lots whose children are long finished with the junior section, to our wonderful parents who provided such a fantastic selection of homemade cakes and buns. Thank you to all the people who made yesterday so special, to John and Dave in charge of the BBQ, to Ken and all the others who helped with the icecream, to Caroline and her helpers who kept everyone going with tea and coffee during the day and to all the people who stayed behind to help with the tidy up.

As is a tradition in Sandycove Tennis Club, lots of our older juniors come down and volunteer on the day and I would like to say a big thank you to them for giving up their time so willingly!

I would like to give a special mention to our Club President for attending the day, umpiring and presenting the children with their trophies! Also, to Rob and Lynn for all their hard work and for making this summer so much fun for the children.

We will be uploading photographs in the next few days of the junior championships but if you took any good actions shots, you might forward them onto alan.cherry01@gmail.com for inclusion.

Tomorrow starts the last week of our summer programme and we hope to see all the kids there.

Best regards
The Junior Committee
