Junior League Results Update

Yesterday we had the first day of the U14 and U18 DLTC Junior League and Sandycove got off to a flying start. We had a full house at 4pm with our 2 U14 Boys Teams playing at home. Team 1 were up against Castleknock in a very tough Class 1 section. They had a very strong first pairing, however our second and third pairings of Michael Murphy/ Ronan Prior and Alex Wardlaw/ Stephen McDowell came through their matches giving Sandycove a valuable 2-1 win. This a great result up in Class 1- well done.

Team 2 consisted of Luke Daly/ Sam O’Rourke, Cian and Cillian Murphy and Max Kane/ Aidan Leahy and the boys stormed their way to a very comfortable 3-0 victory over Blackrock in the Class 2 section.

Our U14 Girls Team travelled all the way to Naas only to then be completely washed out of it and the match had to be postponed!

At 5.30pm our U18 Boys were at home against Greystones 1. The weather started to deteriorate and the the rain was very heavy towards to the end of the matches. First win was for Will Fitzgearld in a great match on the Jimmy Casey Court 7/5 6/1. Next off was the brilliant doubles pairing of Caoimhin Cronin and Sam Hughes. Having lost the 1st set 6-4, the boys hung in there and battled on clinching the second set on a tie break and then managed to come a nail biting Championship tiebreak 10-8. Finally, we had super sub Harry Wall who stepped in yesterday playing second singles and no better player to fight for every point against the big hitter from Greystones. Harry had all the answers making his opponent play one extra ball every time and finding the corners on some superb passing shots and lobs. After a hard fought first set 7-6, his opponent looked discouraged and Harry took full control of the second set. Worth noting also that Sandycove played the same Greystones team last year and lost 3-0, however this year, all 3 points go to Sandycove!

Well done to all teams and thank you to Team Managers, super subs and all who helped with transport/ food and teas.
