Thank you so much for once again making Darren’s tournament such an outstanding success. It was clear that everyone really enjoyed themselves – lots of laughter both on and off the courts! Kathy, Nihele and Mary (Sandycove) did a wonderful job running the event. A huge amount of organizing went into it and it all went off so smoothly. Mary O’Connell has been a constant in this tournament since its conception in 2006 – you do a wonderful job Mary – many thanks. Glenageary were wonderful hosts and looked after us all so well – they provided a delicious supper and ensured our glasses were always topped up. Thank you also to another constant in this tournament, Brendan Henderson, who shared his wonderful talent with us – poet extraordinaire! Congratulations to Ailish Blako and Pat Leamy who were victorious. I know Pat has taken part in many of the Darren Mooney Tournaments – thank you Pat!

Darren’s legacy continues through ‘Darren’s Well’ – a charity we set up in his memory in 2006. I am aware that there are new members who are unfamiliar with ‘Darren’s Well’. I will follow this up in the very near future with an email giving an outline of the charity which essentially helps the poorest of the poor in South Africa. It is headed by Darren’s uncle – Father Sean Collins. The tournament raised the astonishing amount of 1 863.00 euros. It will be put to good use especially coming up to the Christmas period when more than ever the impoverished can feel very isolated. Thank you also to those who couldn’t play in the tournament but sent it a donation.

As always, you did Darren proud and the goodwill and love extended to us means so much. We are so proud of Darren and are honoured that this tournament which brings together two wonderful communities, has its roots firmly planted in his memory.

With love and every good wish

Tish, Peter, Shane and Stephen.
