There was a function held in the clubhouse on Friday last, 20th September, to honour the memory of the late Jimmy Casey, who died in November 2018.

There was a large attendance of over 90 people comprising a large number of the extended Casey family, a number of tennis luminaries, and many Sandycove club members.

Club President, Ken Browne, welcomed all guests and, in his speech, outlined many of the highlights of Jimmy’s illustrious tennis career during his membership of Sandycove, which spanned 68 years.

To perpetuate Jimmy’s memory within the club, Court No. 1 was officially re-named ” The Jimmy Casey Court ” at a special ceremony court-side, to spontaneous applause from the large attendance, as the new sign was officially unveiled.

Members, when booking a court in future, will notice that the court booking system on the website now shows ” The Jimmy Casey Court” instead of Court 1.

It was a wonderful night of storytelling, reminiscences and renewal of acquaintances, as the Club honoured its most famous son in a very appropriate manner.
