A huge congratulations to Michael Butler and all our players competing in this year’s Tennis Masters. Michael organised the league which is for Over 70’s, Over 75’s and Over 80’s.

Sandycove hosted the finals of each event last week with prizes presented by our club president, Ken Browne, and Gerry Clarke, who a few years ago was the world no.4 Over 85 (!)

Sandycove put in a superb performance when they retained their title in the Over 75 category beating Templeogue in the final. The team was captained by Dermot Finucane and also included Michael, Ken Peare and Des Murray. Vinny Dunphy and John Carroll also featured.

In the Over 80 category our team was captained by Vinny Dunphy and just lost out in the final to Glenageary. Our Over 70 team was captained by Giles Kerr but was unfortunately depleted by injuries.

There will be an Over 65 event in September where we hope to be entering a strong team featuring veteran internationals in Class 1 with the club having won Class 2 last year.

Also, there will be an All Ireland in October with teams comprised of one pairing from each of the Over 70, Over 75 and Over 80 age categories. Sandycove got to the All Ireland final last year but just lost out to Belfast.

There is a huge level of success being achieved by our senior members. Congratulations to everyone involved. You are an inspiration to us all !
