To reflect the more onerous nature of above roles in recent years, it has been decided to amend the Captains’ roles, with immediate effect for 2019. This will enable the workload to be spread over a greater number of member volunteers, thereby making the roles more attractive and less onerous personally for future Captains. The present Committee is putting a very strong emphasis on Inclusivity and Volunteerism for 2019 and it is planned that, by spreading the workload of Ladies’ and Men’s Captains across more stakeholders in YOUR club, it will make the volunteer experience far more rewarding for all and much less stressful for the Captains than previously. This principle is also particularly relevant for all Junior-related events which will occur throughout the year and the club is recruiting a Junior Co-Ordinator to assist with same. The amendments to the Captains’ roles are set out below:

DLTC Leagues
The Committee will identify and appoint 2 men and 2 ladies to work closely with the Captains in the running and general management of the leagues. These roles will be in addition to the individual league team captains who will continue to operate in the normal way.
• In the absence of a current Ladies’ Captain, Jenny Cullen has kindly offered to run the 2019 Winter League, along with a selection committee which is being finalised at present.
• Annual Transition Period – It has been agreed that the outgoing Captains each year will work closely with the incoming Captains for the duration of the first league, i.e. Winter League, to enable a seamless transition to be effected.

5 Mile League
The Committee will identify and appoint volunteers to run this league entirely, with regular updates to the Ladies’ Captain. Siobhan Smyth and Fiona Spillane have kindly volunteered for this role for 2019.

Charity League
Again, the Committee will identify and appoint volunteers to run this league entirely, with regular updates to Ladies’ Captain. Sara Beth Casey and Emma Percival have kindly volunteered for this role for 2019.

Easter Cup
The Committee will identify and appoint volunteers to run this event entirely, with regular updates to the Men’s Captain. Barry Totterdell has kindly volunteered for this role for 2019.

Monday Club Night
Mary O’Connell and Agnes Danaher have kindly volunteered to run this event for 2019.

Annual Tournaments: Handicaps’ Tournament and Senior Championships
The Committee will identify and appoint 2 ladies and 2 men for each of these events, to assist the Captains, as required, in running the events.

LADIES, YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU – I’m sure there is at least one interested lady out there, or two, who might like to take on the role together. Please contact me on 086 2502304 to discuss and I will give you my sincere assurance that all these supports to the role will be in place immediately. It is my personal earnest wish that we do not go into 2019 without a Lady Captain(s).
Christmas Greetings to all members and their families.
