26th April – it’s getting nearer…

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick update..
I had a good morning this morning. It was bright and sunny and I walked our dog up the Vico and over Killiney Hill. I have been walking the pier regularly but I discovered that I’m not that fit after I tried the Vico last week. I need more cardio exercise – tennis is waiting!

I’m really looking forward to getting back to Tennis and as soon as I arrived home I received an email from Tennis Ireland about our return to play on the 26th. They have been doing lots of work with Sport Ireland on our behalf.

So.. Get yourself fit, dust off your racquet, check your shoes and bounce those balls. In fact, Catherine sent me a link for a Couch to 3k being run by DLR Sports Partnership which starts on the 12th if you are interested

Couch to 3K

There’s good news and ok news in Tennis Irelands update. I have copied and pasted the relevant part below:

• From 26th April outdoor tennis facilities can reopen
• To access club courts, players must be a current member or a participant on an approved Tennis Ireland Programme
• Indoor courts must remain closed (with an exception for High Performance Players)
• Double’s play is allowed, if playing partners are from the same household.
• Club houses and other indoor facilities (for example: changing rooms, showers, meeting rooms), must remain closed.
• Essential toilet facilities may open.
• From 12 April, travel is permitted within your own county or within 20km of your home if crossing county boundaries.
• A pod, up to a maximum of 6 Junior players (u18 yrs.), can be coached per court.
• A maximum of 4 junior players (u18 yrs.) can operate on the court at any one time while remaining in their own sections of the court with up to 2 other players rotating in and out as required.
• A pod of 8 players per court is allowable for red ball activities, subject to social distancing protocols being implemented.
• Adult (Over 18 yrs.) coaching activities must be limited to a maximum of two households per court. Players must remain in their own sections of the court

We and Tennis Ireland will keep working on these measures and I will keep you informed of any changes or concessions that are agreed. The one closest to my heart is around doubles play with my friends… hopefully soon.

I will keep you up to date closer to the 26th and we all hope to see you fit, happy and healthy then.

Kindest regards,
Barry Totterdell
President
