The final week of Ladies Team Tennis rounded off in style, with a wonderful evening of sport, sunshine and club spirit last Sunday!
The club was in full swing when most arrived as our outstanding U18 girls celebrated a fantastic run to their semi-finals. A big thank you to Jenni in the office for her excellent scheduling, which allowed both competitions to run smoothly alongside each other!
From early afternoon the atmosphere was electric with the balcony buzzing. The first ladies’ matches began at 4.30pm, followed by further rounds at 6pm and 7pm, ensuring a full evening of competitive tennis.
Players arrived in high spirits and the level of competition on court matched that energy with several matches decided by the finest of margins and when results came in just a single point separating first and second team place overall!
After a fiercely contested series of matches, Oilbhe’s Court Queens emerged victorious, lifting the coveted Teams Trophy, which now sits proudly in the trophy cabinet until next time!
A special mention goes to Carole’s Cove Crushers who earned the bonus point for best outfits! Their all-white ensemble, complete with ribbons, face paint, and even the “first white legs of the season” brought plenty of smiles!
Off court due to injury, Sarah Beth Casey once again set the standard for hospitality, hosting a beautifully presented tea party that added a real touch of class to the occasion. By the time play began at 4.30pm, the table was already perfectly laid with a crisp white cloth and stunning floral arrangements that looked almost too perfect to be real! Gary’s Gourmet Pizzas and an array of other treats were thoroughly enjoyed by all. Many thanks also to Linda Vidal for her biscuits, flowers & help in making everything run so smoothly too.
Thanks to our four enthusiastic captains, Anne Marie Murphy, Carole Crowley, Ellen O’Carroll & Oilbhe Doyle who encouraged & supported their teams!
Most importantly, a huge thank you to every player who signed up, played or subbed over the 3 weeks. Your enthusiasm and commitment made the event such a success. It was fantastic to see new combos on court, plenty of laughter, and a real sense of community throughout the club. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about. Sandycove club spirit at its best.
