It was a fantastic afternoon at the club on Sunday as our ladies took to the courts for the much-anticipated Teams Tennis. From the moment players began arriving there was a real buzz in the air. Dressed in their team colours, the energy and enthusiasm set the tone for a fun and social afternoon of tennis.
Played as a graded tournament over three weeks, Teams Tennis offers a competitive and inclusive format. With players grouped into teams of eight, the emphasis is not just on competition, but on club spirit. It is a chance to team up with players you might not usually play with and build friendships in the club.
First up, Annemarie’s Elegant Aces faced Ellen’s Baseline Beauties. The Elegant Aces took matches at one and two, but the Baseline Beauties secured three and four, leaving the tie perfectly balanced. When the games were counted, it was incredibly close – both teams finishing level on 34 games each!
Next on court were Carole’s Cove Crushers versus Oilbhe’s Court Queens. The Court Queens edged the contest, with the Cove Crushers just one game away from securing a draw. Once again, it was a tightly fought battle, with only three games separating the teams overall.
Throughout the afternoon, the courts were full of action. There was great sportsmanship on display, plenty of smiles between points and no shortage of exciting rallies to keep everyone engaged. Even when the monsoon-like-rain lashed down, not a single player left the court – a true testament to the spirit and determination from everyone .
A big thanks, as always, to Sarah Beth for going above and beyond with the catering even ironing the tablecloth onsite before the ladies arrived, and to Rog for the great post-match treats enjoyed by all.
Well done to everyone who took part. Thanks to our captains Annemarie Murphy, Ellen O’Carroll, Oilbhe Doyle & Carole Crowley for all their support. It was wonderful to see the club so full of life and we look forward to more of the same in the weeks ahead!
