On a gloriously sunny Tuesday morning in Sandycove, the Class 4/5 team delivered a superb performance against Claremont, securing an emphatic 3–0 victory in their charity league match.
Leading the charge in the number one position, Mandy and Natalie were in outstanding form, dominating their opponents with a decisive 6–0, 6–1 win in just one hour. Their commanding display set the tone for the morning.
Ann and Catherine followed up with another strong performance, taking their match 6–3, 6–0 after a competitive opening set. They maintained control throughout and ensured Sandycove stayed firmly on track.
The most dramatic contest came from Ellen and Helen. After narrowly losing the first set in a tie-break, they fought back brilliantly to claim the second 6–3. The match then went to a championship tie-break under the new rules. There was a moment of early celebration at 8–6, much to Claremont’s surprise, but Sandycove quickly regrouped and sealed the win 10–6, prompting well-earned celebrations.
With great support from the balcony and fantastic team spirit throughout, Sandycove secured a clean 3–0 victory. Well done to all involved.
